Golf Report
My friends did a golf report for 2007, so I figure I'll throw one together for you. Chekc Matts statistical playground over at on the tee, and toasts short but sweet breakdown at golf and poker.
Mixed reviews on this years golf game.
I started off struggling for the first few months of the year. By struggle I mean i couldn't break 80 no matter what I did. Can't remember exactly, but i think it was Late June or july before I broke 80 for the first time this summer. That was dissapointing. But i managed to turn it around and actually started scoring really well. I got my handicapp down to a low 4, meaning I was a few decimals away from a 3. My lowest I ever got handicapp to was a 5, so this was great for me. Unfortunatly, I lost focus on golf as Football season approached and stumbled a bit to finish off with a high 5. My goal was to finish this season at a 4, so not to bad anyways.
My irons were a huge improvement this year after I got the Taylor Made R7 TP's. I upgraded my driver to the new R7 which gave me some more accuracy, better ball flight, and maybe a few extra yards. I already hit the driver long so, if i gained anything, i didn't really notice. My putting was better at times, but with less practice this year, i can't say it improved. I will say that my wedge game improved this year. I felt much more confident that I could get the ball close to the hole from 100 yards in. I've been strugling with this area for years now. hopefully things continue to improve next year.
Now lets see, some stats from the year.
Low round was 74 at St. Catharines from the back tees.
High round was 115 at Oakmont Contry club
Courses played - Oakmont Country Club, St. George's Golf and Country Club, Wooden Sticks, Heron Pointe (of course), Rattle Snake, The Raptor (Ari, pga event played here), Dinosaur Mount (ari, gorgeous course).
I had a trip to Arizona in april, played some amazing golf there. Got to the play the number 1 course in Canada, and played a top 10 course in the world, Oakmont Country Club.
I chokend in the qualifying event for the niagara mens tour, so I missed out on that. I will be trying again next year. This is were I need to improve the most, my tournament play. I made it to the semi finals of the Langly Cup (low handicappers) at my club. Atleast I was able to face Mike K (arguably one of the best golfers in the club) and beat him, so that was a big deal for me. Bombed in the Club Championships, again. I need to be more relaxed during important rounds. I'm hoping yoga helps me to calm myself for important rounds of golf.
So things to work on for next year. Consistency, must string together the good rounds rather then play spotty golf. Improve mental game during tournament play. Accuracy, although my iron game improved this year now that i can hit the half swing shot, i still need improvement with my driver and long irons. Course Management, I need to think more about when to attack and when to let up, basically think more about risk/reward. And of course, BE MORE LIKE MATT, HE'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.
So thats it untill next april. Might be heading to Palm Springs this year with the boys. For now it's on to my new passion, Squash. Right now im in the D league (there is only A B C D), so I've got my work cut out for me. Need to be in A or I won't be happy.
Have a good winter .
