It's been awhile

I haven't had anything to talk about so my blogging has taken a serious hit lately. The biggest problem is the fact that it is winter right now and I have nothing to do. Football is over, golf is on hold, and I don't do anything else. I've been watching the reagular stuff on t.v. Prison Break gets better every week. 24 sucks but I still watch. The Wire is my new favourite show. I have one more episode to go in the third season and it just keeps getting better. 1 more season to go. Watched the movie the Departed yesterday, just before it won the oscar. What a great movie. Haven't seen a movie like this in a long time where I finished and thought it was actually really good.

My trip to Arizona took a bit of a hit last week. My friend Preston broke his freakin wrist last week playing basketball. The doctor told him 6 weeks to heal, we have 7 before we go. It's not going to cancel the trip or anything like that, but he's going to have a tough time playing I assume. I broke my forearm a few years ago. when the cast came off it was pretty week, but I didn't miss a beat playing football and basketball right after it came off. Hopefully he can push through any pain. Atleast theres other guys coming with us, so no matter what I'm still playing golf everyday.

I bought a new club today. Taylor Made Rescue Club, 2 iron, TP version. Got some asian shaft on it. Not a fuji but must be good if it's named after an asian person, i guess. Plus it's got weights in it so you can adjust the ball flight. My weights will be whatever combination you need to keep the ball straight. Here's a link to the club. Should have it in time to play in arizona. I can hit my 3 iron rescue pretty far, about 230 on a good one, so hopefully this new one gives me the a little extra distance to go for more par 5's and more accuracy on shorter par 4's where i don't really need a driver. Also my playing partners and myself like to torture ourselves as much as possible at any course. This brings up the odd 230 yard par 3 into the wind which should play nicely to the new club. How far can you hit your 2 Iron Matt, about 220? Hopefully you do, that way I know I'll be hitting mine about 250.

Thats about it. i don't even have a good story to tell or anything like that. I'll work harder at doing stupid things for all my readers out there.

Just o.k.

I put a theory to test last night and was kind of unhapy with the results. Last night 24 was on for 2 hours. Usually I would be excited about this, but not this time. I figured that without Prison Break on before hand, i wouldn't be so blown away by it and in turn enjoy 24 more. However, I almost fell asleep last night. It was so boring. I called every shot that was about to happen last night. This guy gets away. A bomb was set to explode last night, of course jack happens to be a bomb technician and defused it pretty easily in under 3 minutes. Jacks father pretends to be innocent but is behind everything. One trick after another by this guy, no one catches on.

I'm upset cause I used to be on the edge of my seat with this show. Even last year I was still into it. Now I watch Lost, Prison Break, The Wire, and a few other shows and they bring so much more to the table. I'll keep watching 24, and won't miss an episode, but I'm not liking it. Something has to change, but I don't see how it can.

How to fill the void?

After experiencing my first sunday with absolutly no football in the last 5 months, i fully realized my dependency on the NFL. I was lost yesterday. I woke up feeling umcomfortable knowing I had nothing to do all day. No purpose, no drive. I turned the computer on, but quickly realized there was no sunday updates. turned on TSN only to find some crappy hockey news on instead of Chris Berman and the gang. It was actually a little depressing.

So what was my day filled with on the first of 7 months with no football? I started off by watching another episode of the wire. Followed by about 4 more after that. I'm now well into the second season, and the show keeps improving. Preston came down for the day. He is also lost without football. He would come down to my place every week to watch, now hes in the same boat as me. We played Tiger Woods for a while, and some fifa, but that just didn't cut it. I rented some movies, but they didn't get watched yet. I somehow got through the whole day, and actually went to sleep early with no night game on. Although i was relatively rested today after a good nights sleep, I still feel drained from no football. The off season is here, and I hate it.

T.V. shows

I'm writting this one with nothing on my mind. I just figured I should post something to keep the loyal readers coming back. I couldn't even think of a title.

One thing I didn't do was update on Monday night t.v. Prison Break was phenominal. I have to spare the details cause I'm hoping Cal and Matt start watching it, but it blew me away this week. THis show is so freakin good, that it is ruining 24 for me. Since it is on at 8 and 24 at 9, I'm watching them back to back. But I'm so pumped after an hour of prison break and thinking about the next episode, I barely pay attention to 24. And it's actually getting a lot better this year. Bauer has made some serious moves, including torturing his brother for the second time in 2 hours. I think that brings the tally up to 4 victims conuting the brother twice. And what a great twist at the end of the show this week. It's great that is finally improving, it just doesn't have the same effect as years past.

I have also discovered that I might be more into T.v. shows right now than I am movies. Movies have been horrible lately. I can't even remember the last movie I rented or went and saw and walked out afterwards thinking that was a great one, or even a good one. So i've started DVD T.V. shows. Right now i'm in the middle of the first season of The Wire. I have been trying for a while to get into this show. Its very good. An HBO drama set in Baltimore Projects. It shows the story of 2 sides, one being the cops side trying ot bust Avon Berksdale, the biggest drug dealer in Baltimore. The show does a great job of developing each character, storyline, and has a lot of surprising angles. One of the most surprising things was there is one character named Omar. He is this bad ass mother fucker, who is basically the robin hood of the projects. He has a small crew of 2 people and he kills and steals from the drug dealers, and just gives the drugs away for free. But he is a bad ass, and sows no mercy, great character. After about 3 episodes with him in it, you find out he's gay. I was shocked. I mean, its not like its the reason to watch the show, but it just shows the creativity. Anyways, I'm almost done season 1, there is 4 season. I'll let you know in a few weeks how it turns out.

Super sunday means awful monday

Yesterday was the last day of football sunday for the next 7 months. Holy shit, what the fuck am I going to do for 7 months of no football. well, I'll probably start by still looking up news everyday and ingulf myself in pre-draft news, draft day, combine, basically try to make all the stuff in the offseason that is as boring as hell for everyone else seem interesting. I do like following it, it gives me a great edge on my keeper leagues for fantasy football.

On to the superbowl.

What started off with the first ever kickoff return in Superbowl history by Devon Hester of the Chi Bears, was one of the best SB's i have seen in awhile. I wasn't even shocked after this return. I was saying all week, if the bears are going to win this game, Hester would be MVP and they would score abour 17 points and hold the colts. I turned to my cousin after the return and smirked with a look like, I just called it. BUt then everything turned around. Peyton got focused after his first pass was picked off. Rex Grossman got picked early too, but only the colts learnt from this. Where as the Bears continued to throw the ball down field looking for the big play, Manning just kept hitting short 3 or 4 yard passes while the Bears D dropped back over and over again making sure to not let up any big plays. Besides the D not allowing Peyton to go deep, why would he. It was pouring rain, windy and basically impossible to throw more than 10 yards with any accuracy or velocity which is most important with the speed of the DB's. Peyton and the colts executed this perfectly to the tune of 22 points (7 was off a defensive touchdown) while holding the bears to only 10 points (7 off the kick off return) to win the game 29 - 17 (i think). Regardless, it was a great game, Peyton got the MVP and I was actually happy to see them win a game. I've said it before, I like watching the best be the best. Peyton has always been great, but never got the respect he deserves. Now, he will no doubt go down as one of, if not the best QB of all time, and we got to watch him take a huge step last night. He now goes from being a Marino, Kelly type of QB, to being in the same class as Montana, Young, Aikman, even Tom Brady.

Great game, 7 months to go.
