Glen Abbey

WOW!!!!

Glen Abbey was probably one of the nicest courses I have ever played. I was fortunate enough to get out there with 3 other club link members and had a great time playing this course. This was destined to be a great day of golf, it all started on the 1st tee when the starter gave me this huge handful of clublink tees. He made my day.

We played the course from the pro tees, the tee set up they use for the Canadian Open. The opening hole is a par 5, which is converted to a par 4 for the tourny, so we played it as that, a 502 yard par 4. I hit a great drive, followed up by a 9 iron, and make a solid up and down for par. That was really the only hole that was significantly different from the normal black tees. The rest of the front 9 was very nice. Huge fairways, with big old mature trees lining almost every fairway, and every green seems smaller than the last. I have never hit into such small greens, the biggest green as probably 15 yards from front to back. The rolls in the green were just amazing aswell. These greens were very difficult to hit approach shots into, and even just to chip up on. You could hit a great shot, be 8 feet away from the hole, but 2 feet off the green. This happenned numerous times to me. So i get around the front 9 in 43, which wasn't very good at all cause I was missing a lot of short putts, but for the first time I wasn't at all angry about this, I couldn't be at a course like this, it was just so beautiful.

After the first 10 holes, this course really shows why it is one of the best in Canada. You step up to the 11th, 452 yard par 4. You hit into this valley that has to be 200 yards below you, just like Lookout Pointe, but a little higher. This view and the hole is the most amazing hole I have ever seen. You drive out into this little fairway from way up, there is a massive tree gaurding the landing area on the left, and 3 huge bunkers guarding the right. I chose the bunkers to go in, where I proceded to hit from one bunker to the next, and than throw my club for the first time about 50 yards, and than from that bunker striaght up and into the water that is guarding the 35 yards in front of the green. The funny thing about the group I was playing with, a bunch of hot heads, was after throwing my club the comments were not "I can't believe he threw that club," or "How terrible, throwing your club is stupid." There response to my club toss was "He got some good distance on that." I start laughing my ass off and the thought of the bad shots go away and I'm back to enjoying this amazing course. Holes 11 through 16 are all in this valley where it's like your in another world. This stretch had to be the most amazing holes I have played. Just one after another, very tough holes, but so pleasing to the eye, you couldn't get mad for playing bad. The 13th was a 558 yard pard 5. I hit a great drive up the left side which was a perfect look at the green and pin, but it was a 230 yard carry to get over the trouble in front, and 240 to the green. So i pull out my Fuji and let it rip. I clear everything, bounce it on the front of the green, the ball rolls 10 yards and I'm 3 feet off the back of the green. My hole group was impressed, high fives all around, it was a great shot. Than one of my playing partners steps up from 110 yards and jars it for eagle. All of a sudden, my shot didn't look so good, but still great hole. 17 is a nice 436 par 4, not very difficult but the green was horribly difficult. I managed to make a par with a great drive, and than hit gap wedge from 155 to about 12 feet from the pin, don't ask me where that came from. Finally, we get to the 18th hole. the most beautiful finishing hole I have ever played. My tee shot flies deep, to the right, just behind THE bunker. THE bunker is of course the tiger bunker, as it says on the GPS system. I lay-up with a 8 iron to about 100 yards. After this shot my day was made. I look up at the green and the pin is far left, exactly where it was that day tiger was playing. I pick up a few range balls (they were real balls) and toss one exactly where Tiger Woods was standing. You can't believe how difficult this shot was. First of all, it is 216 yards of carry, from the edge of the bunker to the edge of the green it is all carry. Plus, you can't even see the pin from where he was standing, it is guarded by trees all up the right side. Anyways, i think about hitting a 6 iron just like tiger, but no fucking way would I have any chance what so ever of even coming close from this point. I use my 4 iron, but should of used rescue. I tried it 3 times, and only once did I make it over the water, but it was left of the very left of the green, but I'm all smiles at this point. I just tried the exact shot I've seen tiger hit a million times, and I realized how freaking good Tiger really is. What an experience. I actually end up hitting a great wedge from 80 yards to the back right pin, and make a solid par. Overall I shot 84, with absolutly no worries about it cause the course was so nice and just a great experience.

Overall it was a great day out on the course with Preston and a few other golfing buddies. I've played with both of the other guys before, one is an amazing golfer. He is actually good, not like Matt who we just say is good, Greg shoots a pretty easy 72, and preston shot 88, i don't know what the other shot. Just a great course, and i really look forward to going back again. MAtt and Cal will have to come for sure. Oh ya, I almost forgot, I got on for $140, not bad considering it cost $240 to play. Go Club Link.

I pulled a Matt

I just finished reading Matt's blog On The Tee, and he was telling the story of my round today. I shot a 78, pretty good. I was 42 on the front and 36 on the back. I was so fucking mad on the front nine. I through a ball in the water on 7, and than continued on to kick my bag, bending the kick stand, and than kicked the pull cart a couple times. This was after hitting the ball about 30 yards in the air, with my putter on 5. Gary gave me a bit of a pep talk before he quit, yet again, and I was able to right the ship, as Matt would say. So turned out o.k. Got a quick lesson from Ryan afterwards on hitting my wedges better. I than bought 2 new wedges, TP Taylor Mades, 52, and 56. Very nice!!

Back at the grind tomorrow.

Lesson Learned

Yesterday, I took off from work at 12 to play golf with Gary. What a mistake. I could of played with Matt at 5 and played 18, but Gary made us quit after #15 due to some rain clouds that were blowing over. Of course it never did rain, and I never saw a single bolt of lightning. However I learned 2 things yesterday. 1 be weary of playing with Gary unles it's a guarantee the wether will be perfect. Secondly, when it's so hot out that Gary has 18 gloves hanging from his push cart so he can change every hole, WEAR A GLOVE!! I fought for the whole back 6 holes to keep a grip on the club. I couldn't dry my hands off at all and the club kept slipping on every shot. So in the heat, no glove, no love.

I got it

Matt and Cal suggested that I try to hit more 3/4 shots and have more control with my scoring clubs. I think I figured out what they were talking about. I played 9 holes last night after practicing for a bit and tried to put some of those things to work on the course. Basically what I did for that round was take one extra club for every shot and try to hit a 3/4 shot. I found the results to be pretty good and I understand more why they were saying this. It made it much easier to keep the ball straight and actually put it on target better. I am actually excited to get better at these shots to see if my game can improve a little. So thanks for the tip guys, i guess 4 monts into the season is better than nothing.

Football is getting so close I can smell it. Almost all the training camps will be starting this weekend, those go for 2 weeks and boom, Preseason starts and football is back. I can't wait. It's hard concentrating on golf right now, with all my fantasy football drafts coming up at the end of august I have been working a lot on my research and analysis of whats going on in the league. I have been concentrating mostly on the rookies for this year. In my Ancaster league, as I explained in an earlier post is going to be all about next year, so I am going to draft a team of rookies, tank the whole year, and than hope atleast 2 of the rookies I draft are able to start next year in good positions. Since I know that no one from my league reads this page, I can offer up some of the things I have learned about them. First of all I have a veryu late draft pick so I don't even concern myself with the obvious choices that everyone is going to be taking. such as Bush, Joseph addai, the RB in New England, and a few other players. Heres where I see potential for next year. There is actually 3 guys I will be happy to get on my team because I see big upside for them. 1. Mourice Drew, Jaguars. Fred Taylor is an injury waiting to hapen every year, and Mourice Drew was a tough back in college and could be a starter even this year. However due to his second round pick I think he could slip to me in the 4th round especially with all the talent that will be there, this would be a great draft pick for me. 2. Chad Jackson, New England Patriots. This kid looks phenominal and was projected in the NFL draft to be a first rounder and went early in the second. I was hoping to get this guy in the 5th round but with Deion Branch holding out Jackson might get picked a little early. However, if I can get this guy on my team I would be in great shape for next year. Brady spreads the ball around every year, but he throws consistently for 4000 yards and 25 touchdowns, Jackson's likely to play WR #2 this year, and after Branch finishes his last year he will not get resigned cause the Patriots are cheap fucks who just build players, win a championship and than build the next guy saving boat loads of money. So Jackson and Drew in rounds 4 and 5 would be great. And my third guy I'm looking for is Sinorice Moss, New York Giants. He's going to start as #3 WR this year, but Toomer is only getting older and Moss has great speed and hands, but is handicapped by his size. I think he is only like 5" 10, but Steve Smith and Santana Moss (brother of Sinorice) have proved that you can perform in the NFL at that height. Also I said it before, I think Eli is going to break out this year, Moss will be a great addition this year.

So far, thats as far as I have got with Rookies that I really want on my team. There are a few more veterans out there in good position to step it up in 2007 so I still have a lot of work to do on them. Plus I have to start working on my other 2 leagues. Shoudl be a great year for Football, like every year isn't.

Go Bills.

OK, I see how it is

I have been struggling with my golf game all summer. Just trying to improve and be a solid player. I thought I was on the right track, but I now realize I was way off. Now I learn that the 2 guys I play 95% of my golf with, have been watching me suck it up and laughing at my struggles. Do you guys enjoy watching me work? Do you enjoy watching me throw clubs? Do you enjoy watching me so frustrated I pick the ball up and jam it in the hole untill the ball knows where its supposed to go? So i see how it is. Me versus the 2 of you. well I can take that. Atleast Cal was willing enough to offer a little bit of advice 4 months into the season yesterday. Thank You cal, i worked on it last night. But for you Matt, it's on now. You know my game better than me? Well your going to get to know it real well, when your watching me beat you in the club championships. Yes, I said it, I WILL BEAT BOSELABERG IN THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!You can write that down in your little captains log, you can blog it, you can tell your wife, you do whatever it is you need to do just to remember I will be better than you. Is that what you like, to hold back something that could help your friend to be a better golfer just so you can say you beat me each week? You freaking grinder. It's on now boselaberg.

Looking for a little help

So am looking to a new step in my game. I feel right now that I am just about to start playing as good as Matt. Right now I am putting up legitimate 80, 81, 82, and by legitimate, I mean i am counting evry stroke with no "computer doubles" and that actually excites me. Although I am not happy with the actual number, I am happy that on a bad day I can actually shot a respectable score. I like walking off the course with a 80 or 81 and being able to look back and say, "If I made just 2 or 3 shots out there I would have been 78 or 77. This is promising cause I can practice those few things (sand game) and put it all together for the championships. Basically I am happy with where my game is 2 weeks before club championships.

What I'm looking for help with is the new clubs I am thinking about getting. Recently I learned I can great a deal on taylor made clubs by not buying them from the pro shop at my club. Since the start of the season I have wanted to get a set of RAC clubs. I think Matt uses them, but I swear I didn't know that before wanting them. This is not another attempt to be like Matt. Anyways, so my cousin just got a new wedge from taylor made. It was the TP 52 degree wedge. The most beautiful wedge I have ever seen. Perfect wait, amazing face, just a great look at the club when you address the ball. So I asked him to look into a new set for me. I am thinking either the RAC MB TP, clubs 3 0r 4 to PW, or the RAC Forged TP. I don't really understand the difference between the 2. From what I can read about them, it seems like the MB is for a highly skilled player (like Matt) who wants to shape the ball a lot. The information on the forged style reads like it is more forgivable, but still gives you some of the positives of the MB. I'm leaning a little more towards the forged TP due to this. But any help you guys could give me on this would be appreciated.

On a side note:

I did not play poker last night. I am not an addict.

For the guys made of sugar

Golf this weekend was mostly enjoyable. Played friday with Matt and Cal, which i discovered was only our 3rd or 4th time playing on a friday afternoon. Very unacceptable. We used to play almost every friday night, what happenned? I guess you can blame it on the pussy. Thats all the pussy really does, is ruin your golf game. Look at me, I finally get some ass and my game falls apart for the first half of the season. That was untill I got my priorities straight and started to practice more. And Matt, he's got that whole "I'm getting married, so I have to go to BRIDAL showers, I can't play golf" type of summer going. So our golf game has suffered, we play less golf, and spend more time cuddling with our girlfriends, this should not be the case.

Anyways, Saturday there was 7 guys to play so I teamed up with Bernie, Brian, and Matt N to mix things up a bit and luckly I did. Cause Matt, Cal, and Gary all pussed out on saturday and quit after 9 holes do to a little bit of rain. Fortunatly my group toughed out the dangerous little rain drops and finished the round. It actually wasn't that bad either. I had an umbrella from one of my partners and was able to keep moderatly dry for the back nine and finished with a horrible 81 in the rain. Probably could of been better if I wasn't rushing shots just to get back under the umbrella. But atleast I can still say I have my testicles, unlike Cal and Matt. No mention of gary cause it was a given he was going to quit.

Played sunday aswell, of course. Shot a modest 80, but I missed a lot of easy putts for par, and made 3 double bogeys (A.K.A. round killers). On one hole I went from the bunker on the right side of the green all the way to the bunker on the left side of the green, made double. On 17, I went in the bunker, duffed my shot out of it, hit a bad chip to follow up, and missed the easy putt for boogie. And on 9, I hit my second off the side of hill way right of the green under a tree. Had no shot, chipped it into a bunker and hit another terrible shot out of a bunker, missed the putt and made yet another double. So whats the moral of the story? I have to work on my bunker game.

I saw Clerks 2 on the weekend. It was o.k. for a sequel. But there wasn't much change from the classic first one. Basically, the 2 guys work in a burger joint instead of the convienence store, and do the exact same thing as the first one. Except it was much more vulgar than the first one. There is one part where they are debating wether or not Porch Monkey is a racial slur, it got pretty over the top. A couple even walked out of the theatre at this point. Other than this part, the movie was good for the first 3/4 of the movie untill they tried to make some sort of love plot out of the end, just like every other comedy. I give it a 2 out of 5, which should mean you wait to rent it.

48 Days

thats all thats left untill the greatest time of the year. Football is getting so close. Finally trainng camp starts. That means lots of news, and lots of position battles. Paying attention to training camp and pre-season football is what makes for a great fantasy year. This is where you get a look at all the little things. Like targets, who is getting a lot of passes early on. Who might break out as a starting RB. It's all about preseason, thats were you gte a jump onthe competition. The only thing that kind of sucks for me and preseason, is I actually have to watch the second and third quarters when this year starters are off the field. As i said early in a post i have to draft all depth in one of my leagues. I'm only looking for players who will play next year, not this year, so I will be tunned into a lot of games this year. Luckly, I have the best channel ever created for man. The NFL Network. Now that i lost ESPN cause my US dish is down, NFL Network is my religion. The programming is phenomenal. NFL Total Access is basically a sportscentre hour long show only about football. Always great stories and anlaysis. Mostly cause they have current and old players on the show al the time, plus they do entertaining stuff. My favourite player was on last night, Chad Johnson. Obviously we all know how much shit talking he does, but the beuty of him is it is always backed up by great play. They showed a clip last night of him talking to Deangelo Hall of the Atl Falcons from last year. Here's a transcript of the conversation.

CJ - I got you beat, I already know your weakness.

DH - what weakness?

CJ - I know your weakness.

DH - What weakness, what's my weakness?

CJ - I know your weakness, you play DB!

Straight to the guys face, right in front of him, CJ comes so hard at this guy. I love it.

Last night I found a new hot pick for the year. He should fly under the radar a little bit and could prove to be quite good next year. You ready for it? Eli Manning. He did some good things last year that made people notice, but I still think he will be available around the 8 - 10th QB taken in a redraft. I was watching some film on him on NFl Network and the guy is remarkbly accurate. Also he seems to study and read defense's like his bro Peyton. Not nearly as well yet, but it looks like this guy could be that good. PLus he's got Plaxico, who is in his third year as a #1 WR, which history says is a WR best year, Shockey is a beast coming in healthy ready to play again, and Tiki is a top 5 option at RB. I predict big things for Eli in 2006, he's my Carson Palmer of this year.

ON a side note, Matt, Cal, I'm not sure i will be able at play at 7:07 sunday morning. I'm playing on seeing back to back movies saturday night, The Devil Wears Prada followed up by THe Lakehouse, so it should be a late night for me. I'll do my best.

My home away from home

so i finally got to play Heron Pointe again last night. I forced preston to play last night around 5:30, and it turned out to be a great round.

I got there a little late due to traffic on the 403 so I pulled a boselaberg going from trunk to tee. Just a side note, it didn't matter what happenned in golf cause I had the best day ever at work cuase my sales manager landed an enourmous account that will change my whole business. However I stepped up on the first hole and made my first ever birdie on 1, par 2, 3, boogie 4, and than my good friend boss joined up with us for a hole. I par 5, 6, and 7. But again, boss insistead on joining us for another hole, causing me to totally under-club the 8th hole making a solid 5. Underclub doesn't even justify the club i used, 170 with a cross wind but downhill, and I hit 9 iron, i blame boss for this one. Make a par on 9, and I'm 3 over.

After the front nine things jam up a bit, and we decided to let Boss play the rest of the round with us. Eventually I forgot my score, preston had some really good hash to go with my weed, and it turned into a trash talking seudo match, what else would you expect with Preston and I playing each other. So basically we go into the 18th with Preston 3 strokes up on me. I pure a rescue over the very long carry to the 150 yard marker. I than proceed to ride Preston with, "So go ahead and knock 2 in the water and i'll make 3, you make 6 and we tie." Preston than hits his first shot, in the water, YES. Next shot striaght down the middle, doh. I than step up to my approach shot, PW of course from 157, and I knock it about 10 feet from the cup. Preston does not fair as well. He knocks something from 140, straight into the green side bunker, YES. Now he's got to go up and down to tie me if I make the putt. Long story short, I miss the putt, preston makes a great sand shot, but misses the putt, makes 7, and we tie. Still a great afternoon in the sun playing golf with Preston and a lot of weed mixed with hash. Sometimes you just have to have fun out there. Preston's off to play Hamilton Golf and CC next week, so he figures he will start playing again since he can't play like shit out there. For me, I'm back to the range tonight to practice for club championships.

Another point for Matt and Cal, no I did not pay again. So i'm about $600 up on club link now, what a great organization. I love club link course.

Holy shit it's Hot here!

Its so hot here right now it's hard to do anything. My plant feels like its about 50 degrees and I can't stand leaving my office. For those of you that don't know, my office is in the middle of my sweltering plant, but with a nice little window A/C unit keeping me fresh and cool while I watch the minions sweat they're ass's off. Yes, I'm an evil capatalist.

Thanks to the heat last night I waited untill about 6:30 to hit the range last night. Luckly I did though. I am determined to put some serious practice time in before the club championships. It's my last chance to play well in something that means anything, and I want to play aswell as possible. when I hit the range last night I was lucky enough to run into Ryan (the ass pro, and my "coach") and he was able to help me out with my driver. Since I'm not as good as Matt and I don't have some captains log to refer to when my swing feels wrong, I was happy to get a few pointers to fix my driver. I have been awful with it lately. So ryan took a look and found 2 things wrong which should improve my drive drastically. First, I was holding my hands to high when I address the ball. I dropped them about 4 inches down which made the swing look much more powerful and allowed me to stay more compact through my swing. Feels much better. He also told me to try and leave my right foot on the ground longer closer to impact. Lifting my right foot to early was causing a huge high fade (very undesirable). However, when I lift it to late, i'm looking at a horrible snap hook. But when you find that happy medium it was beautiful. Once I can get that down exactly how I want it i'll never miss. So a new thing to work on to try and be as good as matt.

Actuall now that I think of it, Matt is kind of shit right now, he's gone up from a 1.something to like a 4. I've already brought my cap bck to where it was at the start of the season, and I don't need a drop like Matt's on my record. So maybe now I need to be as good as Mike, the backshop guy who works at our course who kicked our asses this weekend.

My last chance

So in the most recent Niagara Mens tour event I managed to play amazing for 14 holes which doesn't mean shit.

Finally, a course that I have played many times, and felt 100% comfortable on, and I blow it with 2 horrible shots from 150 yards down wind with my favourite club (PW) in my hand. I played the whole round exactly how I wanted to. I hit my recsue club off of almost every hole. Hitting driver twice, once on the first par 5 where I planned on hitting it, and once more on the next par 5, where I should of hit rescue, but I thought I could hit driver and just managed to keep it out of the fescue. However, every other hole was played perfectly, and i got to a point on the course that I thought about all day. I had it in my head all day that I was going to shoot 78, and thats exactly where I was standing on the 15th hole, 6 over, with 4 holes to play, all down wind, and for the most part pretty easy holes as far as I was concerned. All i had to do was par out and I think I would have finished in the top 15 atleast. So I tee off 15, straight down the middle 275 yards with my rescue. Hit 6 iron to 135 yards, pull out the PW, and i pull it right into a green side bunker. I than proceed to fuck up my sand shot and take a double bogey. Next hole, another rescue down the middle 280 yards, i got to 155 down wind again for my second shot, PW in hand, pull it right again to a spot that was an impossible chip, i fuck this one up aswell, and take yet another double bogey. i can't believe it, I'm tilting hard right now. Next hole, par 3, 245 yards, I hit 5 iron with the wind to pin high, but to the right. When I get to the green, I realize this is yet another impossible chip, I make 4, I'm tilting even more. I get to 18, rescue off the tee, barely keep it in bounds, punch a 7 iron back on to the fairway, but it rolls through into a creek, TILT< TILT TILT. I have 8 iron over the lake 175 yards, i knock it about 8 feet from the hole, but miss the par putt to go 6 over on last 4 holes that I was sure I could easily par. I go from shooting a 78 to shooting 84 and now my run on the tour is officially over. with only 2 events left, and such a poor showing the first 3 events, I will now have to wait till next year and try to qualify to get back on. I was devestated after this, so I avoided the club house all together went home smoked a joint and wollowed in my misery, thinking if only I was as good as Matt, I would have pared those last 4 holes and still had a shot at staying on the tour. Oh ya, and this tilting mess was a day after shooting 75 at my home course, i guess thats just golf. I need more experience in tournament play. Hopefully this year helps me be better next year, and make me more relaxed for the club championships this year, thats all I got left to play for. I still don't know the results of the tourny, hopefully Matt faired better than I did.

On a positive note, I am playing much better golf, my last 6 scores are 79, 80, 76, 84, 75, 84, so the game is there, I just need to bring out when it counts, like the last 4 holes of a tournament that I'm sitting in great position to place high. Live and Learn.

2 brothers, a retired GM worker, Myself, and the BOSS
