Pokering

So i was playing poker the other day and I had a great hand. I had QH AH, and I was playing 50 N/L. Some guy checked raise me and....... oh who am I kidding. I wasn't playing poker, who gives a fuck about poker. Only computer programming, stella drinking, lazy guys play poker all night so that than eclipse 10 000 hands in a month and call it a major accompishment even though they loose over the course of the month. Who wants to read a blog only on poker? Especially when theres so much better things to talk about like Fantasy Football and my shitty game of golf. Or better yet, the new linens purchased on the weekend.

FANTASY FOOTBALL FOR LIFE!!!

2 down, 2 to go

Another draft last night and i think i did well again. Once again drafting from the 1 slot, actually much more difficult than i thought it would be, and I think i did a pretty good job. This was a redraft league that started last year. It's a fun and technical league that my buddy in Montreal started and has now gone to $150 for the season. Thats a really good money league. Jacky even let Matt join this year. I must add, Matt did a much better job drafting last night than our first fantasy league. Way to step it up a notch Matt.

Here's how my team shaped up.

Start 1 QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 FLEX (RB/WR/TE), 1 K. 1D

QB - Hasselbeck, Kitna

RB - LT, K. Jones, F. Taylor, Vernand Morency/Wali Lundy, Micheal Turner,

WR - Chris Chambers, Mi. Clayton, Matt Jones, T.J. Housmanzadeh, Ben Watson, Greg Jennings, Troy Williamson

K - S. Gostkowski

D- Dallas and Atl

As far as I'm concerned, that was a pretty good team. Obviously Ladanian is a great player which I was able to handcuff to his back up Turner. Turner could be a stud on another team, so even if LT goes down I got 1 RB no matter what. K. Jones has potential to be great this year but not gauranteed. Taylor is great, but he is sometimes injury prone. Morency/Lundi are the 2 backs from Houston, one will start so I got another position locked up. My WR are my weakest point, but they should make ut o.k. TJ, Clayton, and Jones, all have good sixe and speed, and are big targets for there team. I could get great production out of these guys if the projections for them come true. Jennings and Williamson are projects that could go either way. Watson has potential to be really good. With Deion Branch holding out and possibly being traded Watson wil lbe the Patriots number WR, but he's a TE. Hopefully he turns out to be a nice surprise. QB's are not that important in this league, but i still grabbed some great options. Hasselbeck was solid last year, and is still on a great team. Seatlle also has a very easy scheadule. Kitna under the Martz offense could be really good, but it's still lions. All in all, i'm happy with my team, and I can't wait for the season to start.

a future blog

I was able to look ahead in the future and found this story on Matty blog. It was from april 1st, 2007 just before the start of the golf season.

From On the Tee

Yesterday I came home from work after booking tee times for the weekend and Jacky was there to meet me at the door with a kiss, well deserved after a hard day.

"Matt, close the door" says his wife as he arrives home after a hard day at work... "about this sunday morning golf thing... yeah, we're just not going to do that anymore, mkay?".. "But... but... ".... and then in Matty's mind, he realizes, he got owned the day he moved into his big new house with his soon to be wife... and harry and cal were right... the end.

So i guess sundays are for yard work and laundry now.

I was just as shocked as you after reading this. Lets hope something weird happened while I was travelling ahead to see this. Say it aint so Matt, say it aint so.

Draft Night

I'm hours away from another fantasy draft. This will be my second one having the first pick in the draft. I've got my first pick done already, LT2, but after that, who knos what will happen. This is a fun draft because everyone tries to do it together instead of over the internet. Well actually, a bunch of guys are doing it in montreal, and some of us are doing it here in St. Catharines at my place. I know i will do just fine, but I think Matt is in trouble. There is no defensive players to draft, and I think he will be lost in the 4th round when he can't take Terrance Mcgee. I'll try to help him a bit when it gets tough for him.

In other news, I played golf on saturday. I fucking suck!!! 88. I have officially wasted a season of golf.

I lost sleep over this one

In one of my fantasy leagues, the one where Clinton Portis is my franchise, I had a great pick that was going to help me a year away. It was perfect. I found a guy who was a 3rd stringer this year, but he was going to be bumped to 1st string next year for sure. Jerious Norwood, from Atlanta. He is a rookie running back that was almost an unknown. I'm sure the other people in my league knew of him, but wouldn't be targeting him because of his status on his team. Than last night at about 11 PM i hear my phone vibrate and i checked it. I never check it this last at night, but for some reason I did. It was an email letting me know that T.J. Duckett was being traded to the Washington Redskins. My heart stopped for a second. As i read on my prediction was unfolding right in front of me, just a week to early. Basically everything i predicted about Norwood was coming true, but a week before i could draft him. Duckett gone, and Warrick Dunn being 31, make it a perfect situation for this guy to start next year. This is terrible in my league, because young starting RB are the premium. Because it's a keeper league with 14 teams and 4 keepers each, it's all about finding the next guy. So i had excepted that Bush, Maroney, Deangelo Williams, and Lendale white would all go off the board early and I had all the confidence in the world that Norwood would drop pretty far in the draft where I could grab him with my first pick at 4.14. Now all of a sudden that will be a stretch for him to drop that far. Now i am trying to trade my shitty picks of 4.14 and 5. 1 for a pick that is either the very first of the 4th or the second to last pick in third. But i have nothing to offer other than my 4.14 & 5. 1 picks. This probably won't be enough, and now i'm back to trying to find someone else. I couldn't sleep after reading that email, and now i'm dead tired. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

I got a small fix

Last night was my first fantasy football draft of the year. Thank god for some well deserved football action. All in all, I think I did pretty well in the draft. I was fortunate enough to get the second pick in the draft which yeilded a tight Ladanian Tomlinson. I was very excited about this pick, i was also able to handcuff him to Micheal Turner, so I'm set with that position. I also added with my next 3 picks 3 RB. Reggie Bush, Chester Taylor, and Kevin Jones. Very solid in my opinion. I than took 2 Qb's since we have to start 2, Brett Favre and Marc Bulger. Later I added Jake Plummer and J.P. Losman. I read an article on 2 QB leagues with the suggestion of having 4 QB's to rotate with the best schedule, so we'll see how that works out. I waited a long time to take some WR's so that is my weakest area. Everyone was making some crazy picks after the first few rounds, so I couldn't help myslef. It al started when Matt took a DB in the 4rth round. This blew my mind, but it continued with guys taking defense' and Kickers in the 4rth to 8 th round, so I kept taking whatever starters I could. Came out with very modest WR's in Kennan McCardell, Eddie Kennison, Matt Jones, Micheal Jenkins, Todd Heap, Ben Watson, Troy Williamson. If I can get 1 or 2 surprises out of these guys I should have a good team. The league is set up extremely different from anything I have ever played in and has 10 guys, so I am looking forward to this league even though there is barely any money in it.

In other news, I took all of Matt's money on friday night playing poker for the first time in over a year. Good times.

Injury Madness

The injuries this year in training camp are absolutly atrotious (i have no idea if i spelled that correctly). So many hammies this year, steve smith, terrel owens, just one player after another. Devistating injuries to the Cleveland line, curtis martin, dominick davis, the list just goes on and on. The most important injury hurt me the most. Clinton Portis, the guy my whole frnachise is based around, has hurt his shoulder and is out the rest of the preseason with a chance to play in the opener. The only bright spot about him is that my team can't win this year even if I have a fully healthy Portis. I can ride out the injury untill next year, but I still hope he's o.k. obviously.

I'm stuck with a lot of draft problems aswell. I don't really seem to be in a good position for any of my leagues. Ya, i got the first pick for one and will get LT or LJ but after that the first pick really sucks. I have to wait for 23 guys to go off the board each time before I pick again. Thats a huge drop off from player to player. I have the 6th pick in my 2 man keeper league. so i'm looking at the 30th best player in the league. Not bad, but it's not going to be who I want it to be. This was my best chance, I thought, to get Reggie Bush, but the guy picking first told me last night he's taking him. BOOOOOOO. With my portis draft I'm still really fucked, no pick untill the end of the 4th round in a 14 team league with 4 keepers, you do the math and figure out how fucked I am.

All in all, how can i complain. Football startes in 22 days, 9 hours, and 38 minutes. It's so close I can smell it.

It's official

While playing golf yesterday I cam to realize something about myself. I no longer care about golf, and I can't get fantasy football out of my head. I went out and shot a very modest 79 from the blues, but it was over shadowed by my thoughts for FF. I can't wait for football to start and I don't have enough room in my head to think about golf ans football. Last night I spent about 3 hours on the phone with my cousin just trying to figure out the first 3 rounds for one of my drafts. Of course it led to some tension between us, but it's healthy tension cause it has to do with football. Thats basically what our relationship consists of in season. We spend probably 95% of our time discussing and analyzing FF. We do however give each other a lot of help through out the season. Being in 2 leagues together sometimes hurts us, but we seem to have a aggrement that whatever is discussed is never used against the other person.

In other news, I got the first pick in one of my drafts. I'm going to take LT. I can't wait to have a superstar on my team. But i'm sure he'll go down to a season ending injury, caus emy luck in that pool fucking sucks. Last year my first 2 picks went down with injury in the first 3 weeks of the year. Deuce McCallister went down in the first game, and Randy Moss in the 3rd, so for all those in other leagues, stay away from LT.

Edit last entry

The movie would actually be Matt and I in university. I swear, this is exactly what it would be like if Matt and I had gone to school together. I just wish you guys saw this movie, I can't stop killing myself thinking about it.

I suck

The Club Championships went terrible. I opened up with an 81 on the saturday. I actually thought that I was in somewhat decent shape, but after seeing the rest of the scores i came to realize I was done. Almost 15 of the 20 guys came in under 80, probably even under 78, so I was way off from the cut with no hope really. I had to shoot a 72 on sunday to make the cut.

Things didn't go very well on sunday either. I was 5 over on the 7th hole. But i made a birdie, and things seemed like they would improve. However, on 8 i lost a ball in the somehow with out hitting it out of bounds, and I took a double. 7 over after 9. 10th hole, i hit a great drive, followed up by a great 4 iron from 225, to 15 feet from the cup, and drained a huge putt for eagle. Alright, things are getting better. I was thinking, if I can get a birde on the easy 11th, I'm only 4 over, and I could probably par out for a 76 from there. Boy was I wrong. I lipped out the birdie putt on 11, and than got in line behind 4 groups on the 12th. This is where everything went wrong.

After waiting for close to 1/2 hour, I hit my 6 iron into the water. Chipped up to the green, and than 3 putted from 8 inches for a solid 7. My group was 5, 6, 7, on this par 3, great hole. I than boogied the next 2 and I was done. Par out from there, finished 83.

There was way to many good players in the open division this year anyways, so it didn't really matter, other than I didn't make the cut, which was my only goal. Oh well, theres always next year.

So golf is basically done for me this year. 2 more tour stops, which don't matter cause I sucked so bad at the start, and football starts in 5 weeks, so my sunday game is done after that. So all attention is basically on fantasy football now. I just found out I got the 1st pick in one of my redraft leagues. It's been years since I had a stud on my team, so thats cool. Now i just have to decide between Larry Johnson, Steven Alexander, or Ladanian Tomlinson. I'll let you know how it goes at the end of august.

Good Luck to Cal today. He's in 4th, and looking to play well enough to get in the money today. Hope he pulls it off.

I saw a ghost last night
